Recommendations before final draft writing
There is a lot of recommendations I have that would help Dolce and Gabbana to get a better reputation and also gain more consumers. Firstly I think they should improve their sustainability and become a lot more environmentally friendly by recycling more items. As they don't go into a a lot of detail on their website about how ethical they are it makes consumers presume that they aren't sustainable. I think if they spoke openly about their new changes and explain what they have done to change I think more consumers would have a better understanding of the brand and want to support it. I also think by setting themselves future goals on their website such as where they hope to stand in 2020, this interests consumers as they want to see the progress they make and then they will feel proud for being a part of a brand that is so sustainable and has made sufficient progress.
A lot of their competitors have recently become fur free. D&G have not followed the trend of yet. I think as there is articles wrote about how they torture rabbits for their fur, it puts a lot of people off the brand. By them coming out as cruelty free it would make people a lot more accepting of them. Apart from being fur free I also think they should stop testing on animals and speak openly about it by stating it on one of their social media pages to make it clear that they are improving. Within fashion brands a lot of people aren't aware of brands ethics and if they are cruelty free or not so by speaking about it openly on social media its ensuring that they are letting people know they are making progress.
Dolce and Gabbana don't have a plus size clothing range. By creating one for their brand it would create a wider target market and more people would be able to shop at the brand.
Versus Versace is a range of Versace clothes that are at cheaper prices. If D&G did this more people would shop at their brand as they could afford more of their products. I think this is something D&G should consider incorporating into their collections.
On social media they don't interact much with their audience. They could improve this by doing polls getting their target market to decide which dresses are nicer etc. This would make their audience create more of a bond with the brand; creating customer loyalty. As well as this they could show more of the behind the scenes of them designing products on their Instagram stories. Although other brands don't do this, as D&G have had a lot of backlash recently and over the years to come back from this I think they need to interact more with their consumers and reveal more on what goes on with the brand.
They have previously made some comments which instantly turn people away from the brand such as: Stefano Gabbana calling Selena Gomez. They made comments about being against IVF for gay couples, they have created a racist ad and released it in China as well as making racist comments such as "I don't want a Japanese designer to design for D&g". They also released sexist ads in 2007 presenting women to be the weaker of the sexes and showing them as powerless compared to males. All of these actions create people to boycott the brand. Elton John created the #BoycottDolceandGabbana which still carries on to be used now. Most recently was used when the China ad was released.
Because of their actions it leads them to lose out on consumers. To help them I think everything they do to improve their brand should be spoken about publicly so consumers know they have changed and are looking to improve themselves. Otherwise not many consumers will know and the famous hashtag will carry on. By also speaking about it publicly its them interacting with their audience which makes consumers feel more involved and have a better understanding of the brand. Some of the things I have suggested aren't what other brands do however, I think this is what is needed to ensure they get more loyal consumers and people become aware of their changes in order to progress.
